Generally speaking, spring is the most suitable time to move house. In Spring, things have usually settled down since the busy Christmas period and the weather is generally better with lighter days, milder temperate and overall improvements in weather conditions.
Having said that, others will say there is no best time to move house. The moving process is unlikely to be flawless as a direct result of the month or season you’ve chosen to move in.
There a few things to consider when deciding which season to move in:
• Christmas Season: the Christmas period can be a busy period collecting and distributing presents, preparing and organising for Christmas visitors, buying and prepping food, the list goes on… The Christmas season or Winter can be particularly cold and subject to icy roads and potential snow which can make moving house a disastrous activity.
• Summer: if you have children, it is more than likely they will be off for at least 6 weeks during the summer period and if you’re planning to move this can be a help or a hinderance. More helping hands or more causing chaos?
• Spring/Autumn: to most people’s opinion, moving house is spring or autumn is the best time to move as weather conditions are milder and there are fewer public holidays and celebrations to factor in.
Keep in mind, the timing of your move will be affected by your estate and solicitor so you may not have a huge choice in the month or season of your move. However, if you maintain frequent communication with both your estate agent and solicitor you ensure you’re organised and prepared for moving day.
