Moving house can be a stressful affair which can easily cause moments of forgetfulness and panic. Every move is different, whether that be a residential move or a commercial move. Trying to organise your move can be time-consuming and laborious. We at Goodfellows Removals can help with the packing of your belongings and the transit of your possessions to your new home or office. However, we understand there is a lot more to moving house than just packing and moving your belongings from A to B. That’s why we have put together a simple guide to tying up all the loose ends before and just after you’ve moved property. Read our moving house checklist to simplify your moving experience. Wave goodbye to additional stresses and worries.
1. Organise your finances just before you move.
Moving property will require you to change your address with a number of financial institutions. For example, you will need to change the address registered at your bank or building society and pensions companies, the registered address of your savings/bonds, credit cards and national insurance.
You will also need to change a number of your insurance policies, including life insurance, contents insurance and building insurance to be applicable to your new home or office.
2.Notify your utility & subscription services.
You will also need to notify your utility providers and any subscriptions you have signed up to of your house move. It is advised only to make these changes a week or so prior to your move to prevent post being delivered to the wrong address. Services that will need notifying:
This is not a conclusive list, and you may find there are additional items you may need to deal with.
3. Re-register your motoring documents
Remmeber that you sholid be changing the address on your physical drivers licence as well as registering your new address with the DVLA, your car insurance provider and breakdown services.
4. Arrange your public health services
If you’re moving outside the radius of your doctors surgery you will need to register at a new doctors surgery. It may also mean that you need to register at a new dentist and opticians.
5. Re-register to vote
Although this task it not necessarily one for immediate attention, it is important to re-register to vote from new address. Simply and easy to do via the Government’s website.
6. Take final meter readings/bills
Take a final meter reading for your gas, electric and water meters, this way you and the new owners cannot dispute the cost of future bills coming in. What’s more, it is also recommended that you take meter readings when you move into your new property to check these against the reading provided by the old owners.
