1. Get rid of unused and unnecessary items.

There is more than likely belongings in your home that never get used or are unnecessary, also known as ‘clutter’. We recommended getting rid of any clutter that you no longer need or use to help minimise your packing.

2. Organise things by room or by category.

To help simplify the packing and unpacking process we advise packing your belongings by room and/or by category. For example, belongings which you know will stay in the same room in your new property i.e the kitchen, ensure all kitchen belongings stay in the same box. You can even go as far to separate the kitchen by categories, for example plates and bowls, sauce pans and pots… Label your boxes by room and by category.

3. Research professional removal companies.

By searching online you’ll be able to find plenty of professional removal companies local to you and review sites. It is more than likely belongings will get damaged or lost in transit if you opt for a removal company that isn’t professional and has poor reviews.

4. Create a moving to-do list and a packing list

Moving house can be a stressful time, especially the packing period. By creating a moving to-do list and/or a packing list you’re less likely to forget important tasks and more importantly, relieve stress and worry.

Whether you make a hand written list in a note pad, a list on your phone or a list on your computer or tablet, a list will help your tick off tasks that you have completed and focus on the ones remaining.

5. Be prepared with packing materials

If you have already selected your removal company, it is more than likely they can supply you with packing materials such as cardboard boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap, packing tape and packing peanuts. If this isn’t the case, research online ‘where can I find packing materials?’ or ‘where can I find cardboard boxes for moving?’

Make sure you’re prepared with plenty of packing material so you can start your packing in advance with no need to worry about running out of materials. If you over buy materials from your removals firm it is more than likely they will buy the products back from you.

6. Label Boxes
