How to pack a chandelier for moving

If you have one or several chandeliers that need packing before the big moving day, it is recommended you wrap and pack them individually. Chandeliers are often expensive purchases, fragile and easily broken or damaged, especially in transit when not sufficiently protected.

For starters, you will need a large strong cardboard box that is structured and will not easily lose its shape, this is for the main body of the chandelier. Secondly, you will need one or two smaller boxes for the detachable elements of the chandelier and the light bulbs. You will also need bubble wrap, packing paper or newspaper, furniture blankets (or old blankets/rags will be fine), packing tape, and packing peanuts. Once you have removed your chandelier from its fixture, remove the light bulbs, wrap each one with bubble wrap and arrange them carefully into the small structured cardboard box. Move on to removing the detachable elements by using a screw driver or simply lifting them off wires or hooks. Carefully wrap each element using bubble wrap or packing paper and place inside the small structured cardboard box.

You’re then ready to pack the main body of the chandelier. Start by preparing your large structured box by sufficiently taping the body to ensure it is strong and to prevent possible breakages from occurring. Ideally, your cardboard box will be large enough for there to be spaces either side of the chandelier for protection to be added. With assistance, place your chandelier inside the box with caution and care. Once carefully placed, begin adding your packing peanuts and sheets of bubble wrap to the sides of your chandelier ensuring there is no empty spaces.

If your chandelier is able to move inside the box, you are at risk to damage. Before sealing your box, lift and carefully shake to identify if there are any lose elements and finally cover the top of the chandelier with furniture blankets or further bubble wrap. You can then finish by closing the lids of the box and sealing it with packing tap (likewise of the smaller boxes containing the chandelier elements and light bulbs). Make sure your label the box as CHANDELIER, EXTREMELY FRAGILE, THIS SIDE UP to signify to removal men that they need to take extra caution with this box.
